Bernedoodles

Bernedoodles are a cross between the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle. Their tri-color markings, happy-go-luckly, and loving attitudes qualify them as the perfect companion dog. They are clever, goofy, and loyal. They are easy to train because there are eager to please.

Our bernedoodle puppies have similar temperaments as their parents: they will make you laugh, they want to be cuddled, and they will be by your side though thick and thin. These dogs LOVE their person.

Our bernedoodles come in two sizes: standard and medium-mini. Standards are typically 60+ lbs and medium-mini’s range from 25--45 lbs.

Bernedoodle Generations & Coloring

Doodle Generations can be pretty confusing! Even here at Yellowstone Doodles we send out many different generations every year: F1's, F1b's F1bb's, F2b's, ultra, and multigenerational.

So what's the difference? Which one fits your family best? Hopefully these charts and explanations help answer those questions.

Lets start with the F1 and F2 generations. The letter F indicates a generation, and the number indicates how may generations from the original full bred parents the puppy is. Here is an example with Bernedoodles.

F1 - A puppy that is half poodle, half Bernese Mountain Dog

F2 - A puppy whose parents are both F1 bernedoodles

F3 - A puppy whose parents are both F2 bernedoodles

B's are added to generational distinctions when a full bred dog is one of a puppy's parents after the initial F1 generation.

F1b - A puppy whose first parent is an F1 doodle, and second parent is a full bred dog. At Yellowstone Doodles this is always a poodle.

F1bb - A puppy whose first parent is an F1b doodle, and second parent is a full bred dog. At Yellowstone Doodles this is always a poodle.

Ultra Bernedoodle - A puppy who ends up with a larger percentage of Bernese Mountain Dog than poodle, has a straight or wavy coat, and has hair instead of fur like the poodle which results in low to non-shed. Carefully planned breeding's between full Bernese Mountain Dogs and very genetic specific Bernedoodles tend to be how this occurs.

Multigenerational Bernedoodle - A puppy whose parents are both some generation of Bernedoodle. By the F1b generation, a dog can have the exact same coat genetics as a full bred poodle. Carefully planned breeding's between Bernedoodles will produce the same non-shedding results in puppies that breeding to a full poodle does.

On each mom's photo reel below, it has her own personal chart so you can see exactly what generation her puppies will be.

Bernedoodle Coloring

Our Bernedoodle puppy coloring ranges quite a bit depending on which generation their momma is. If the mom is a full Bernese mountain dog, the puppies tend to be 100% Traditional Tri, with some blue merles mixed in for the minis.

The fun red and whites, chocolate tris, and blue and red merles get introduced when we have a momma of any other generation! This is also where the mostly white coat will come in. Look on our past puppy page to see which mommas throw which colors!

Our standard bernedoodle stud is Bandit, and our mini bernedoodle stud is Maverick.

Ruby

Ruby girl is all about food, only has eyes for my son Preston and is basically a sunflower.

It doesn’t matter the time or place, Ruby is down for any kind of food all the time. If you want her to jump for it, she’ll puppy-dog-eye ask you how high. If you want her to run for it…. Well, she’ll trot a little faster than normal, but in her cute brown eyes she IS running because, by golly, she will do whatever it takes to get that food!

As per Bernedoodle style Ruby has selected Preston as her person. Anytime anyone else is around she is still typical Ruby, begging for some love and affection, but if Preston is in the yard everyone else just sort of fades away. Unless they have food of course…

Ruby girl is our sunflower pup. If the sun is out, she is out. Out of all of our pups she is the only one who willing says goodnight and puts herself to sleep in her house when the sun starts receding. Ruby’s shinning personality is definitely “Sun’s out, Guns out”!

Valya

One way to describe beautiful Valya is high class. She is observant, communicates suitably, and is most proper in her social interactions.

Valya is extremely observant. She almost seems human in the way she is completely aware of what is happening around her. One example of this is when I pull out my camera. When she see’s my phone flip out to snap a picture, she instantly stops and waits patently until the phone has been put away.

Another example of this is in the way she communicates. The only time Valya barks is if she wants to have a conversation! This usually always happens during her morning routine and training. She has to tell Mykelle all about her night and exactly how she felt about breakfast before she sits pretty and performs her tricks. Valya loves to learn and to please… even when she really, really, really doesn’t want to sit and stay, she will to be the best girl.

Lastly, Valya is most proper in how she treats people. She never chases the mailmen (although they always throw her a bone), and is one of the dogs grandma adores because she is so polite, nice, and obedient.

To top off her high class personality, she always loves having a stylish coat!

Timber is a dog we just have to sit back and laugh at. She is a freedom seeker, loves Amazon about as much as we do, and sounds like a seal.

Timber is border line claustrophobic, okay, maybe there is no border line about it. She is DEFINETLY claustrophobic. She hates hates hates kennels. But there are definitely sometimes when she has to be in one, like when the yard is flooded or the pest control guy is coming. In those instances I have literally dragged her on her back to her kennel, her tail wagging all the while. She doesn't fight she just doesn't help, at all. Can you even imagine an 80 lbs dog, smiling up at you with her tonge out, wagging her tail, all the while being dragged upside down? Yes it's quite the sight. She also loves to prowl right along the edges of the yard. She never runs, but she loves to live right on the edge.

When Timber gets a wiff of the UPS guy she gets super excited. She loves boxes. More than anything else in life. For Timber, brown taped boxes are happiness and the best toy you could ever get her. Sorry Chewy... all Timber needs is Amazon!

Timber knows she isn't supposed to bark obnoxiously... so she hoarsely, quietly lets out woofs that strangely enough sound EXACTLY like a seal. If you hear an ar ar aarrrrr. in the yard, we all know without a doubt Timber is talking to us.

We love this sweet girl and all the happiness and spunk she packs around with her!

Sapphire

Sapphire, also known as Saphy, came back to us a little bit after we had homed her. And we are so glad she did! She is one of Ruby's past babies. Naturally, Preston has claimed her whole heartedly. Saphy loves food.

When Ruby had her first litter of puppies, Preston always claimed Saphy as his. We don't normally do such things. All puppies get a colored ribbon so we don't grow too attached with names. Preston insisted on calling her Sapphire. So, you can only imagine his ecstaticness when she came back home to us.

She is a little Ruby in every instance. Loves food, loves Preston, and loves life. Preston has been off on a Service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but will be back this summer. We are so looking forward to their reunion! And yes, we have been taking great care of Ruby and Sapphire while he has been away.

Scotch

Scotch, a beautiful red and white multigenerational bernedoodle, came to us from Bourbon Bernedoodles in Utah. She is Mykelle's little baby and is absolutely pampered. Scotch loves to fetch, give hugs, and has way more of a bernese temperament than a poodle temperament.

Scotch is the ONLY bernedoodle we have ever been able to successfully teach how to fetch. Bernedoodles just aren't typically interested in that kind of thing. They'd rather just sit and get head scratches! Well, not Scotch. As a puppy grandpa Brent spent a lot of time with her. He LOVES dogs that fetch. Due to this, Scotch fetches. We like to say bernedoodles are chameleon dogs. They become what their people love most. This has become one of her most distinctive characteristics too. She doesn't do it because she loves it, she does it because you love it!

Scotch loves hugs. She knows not to jump on people, you get in trouble for that you know. But once someone has begun petting her she will stand up on her back legs and whine for a hug. If deemed acceptable, she leans in and loves every moment of it!

Scotch is more bernese than poodle in the fact that she loves home and has absolutely zero wander lust. Meaning, she doesn't need a fence just wants to stay home! Her attention span is also in the bernese department. This means she has a pretty short attention span unless food is involved. Even then, if you ask her to sit she will, but gets ants in her pants pretty quick! We sure love this beautiful girl. So excited for her puppies!

Sicily is a recent addition, we got her and her half sister London when they were just about a year old! Sicily is a VERY big girl. Just at 100lbs and and hip height she sure is a force to recon with.

Who loves on this big  dog day? None other than Mykelle and Jentry's girls (both less than 40 lbs). Ozzie and Adrielle LOVE Sicily and London. They are their "Big Best Dogs". The lead them around on leashes, try to ride them like horses (they just sit down), and love to brush and play with them.

Mykelle and Jentry now live in Helena Montana. It is a mountain town, and there are quite a few bears. Are the worried when their little girls are outside playing? Not with these big loveable brutes in the yard!

Sicily is seriously one of the sweetest souls, a rule follower, and LOVES sitting in people seats. She very quickly learned the new rules upon moving into the Young household, and hardly ever trespassed. Even when there was yummy food just sitting on the kid table for the taking! The one and only thing she considers a "dumb rule" is no dogs on the furniture. As you can see in her photos, people seats are the only seats for her. Its a constant battle but hey, when we let is slide she feels like the happiest most loved dog on the planet. "Sweet Sicily, what would we do without you!" - Mykelle

London is a recent addition, we got her and her sister Sicily when they were just about a year old! London, like Sicily, is also a very big girl. Just at 100lbs and and hip height she sure is a force to recon with. She is with Mykelle and Jentry in Helena. Before she had 5 acres of mountain to call her own and exercise on she weighed almost 110 lbs!

Who loves on this big girl all day? None other than Mykelle and Jentry's girls (both less than 40 lbs). Ozzie and Adrielle LOVE Sicily and London. They are their "Big Best Dogs"

"Since we have had London we have absolutely fallen in love with her. Her are some of her funny stories!

Once we were having a campfire just to eat smores. Our dogs normally hate fire, and don't come close. Lets just say it didn't phase London one bit! In fact she all but demanded a marsh mellow with those beautiful brown eyes. So, I gave her a crispy shell to one. It got stuck on her front teeth. She instantly scrunched up her nose and did all she could to get it off. Moral of the story.... she doesn't like marsh mellows.

Another time I was out weeding the strawberries and had my baby in the bouncer. London wanted to get to the baby, but knew she had to be soft so she stuck her leg under it trying to touch the babies foot. It was so tender and so funny at the same time!"

London's First Puppies Coming Soon!

Rose is one of our own past puppies we kept from Timber and Bandit's first litter together and oh boy she has lived up to all of our expectations!

This girl loves to rough and tumble. Unfortunately she is not "tender as a rose". As a puppy she took her name very seriously and dug up all my flowers. She's a tough love kinda gal.  however she is large on life and absolutely loves people.

jAny time a tussle starts in the yard you best believe Rose is in the middle of it. Doesn't matter if she is bigger or smaller, this girl LOVES dog play. Almost as much as little boys like to rough house.

Rose is our most aware and alert dog. She is pretty much our security alarm system. If something, anything is up in the yard, she is the first to know. Cats, new dogs, a heard of deer, cattle, guests, you name it she knows. She doesn't sound the alarm, but she is super good at reading intentions and the general air around a new comer.

Once all is deemed happy and well she is our loveable social butterfly. It doesn't matter who you are (if you are good anyways haha) she will insist on sitting at your feet for a good long session of puppy love.
